4 Tips for Prepping for a Home Inspection

Share:

Congratulations, you sold your home! It’s smooth sailing from here, right? You did all that work getting your house ready to sell. So what more is there to be done before the home inspection? TLC Home Inspections has a few tips you might want to keep in mind as you move into the final phase of your sale.

1. Clear access to attics, crawl spaces, electrical panels, etc.

This generally means making sure there are no tools blocking the pathway to the fuse box and moving your car if the attic entrance is in the garage. If there’s excess brush or trash blocking outside faucets or other areas the inspector may need to access, move those as well.

2. Secure or remove pets.

We’ll need to move throughout your house. As much as we love dogs, some dogs aren’t fans of strangers in their space. If your dog leans this way, please either secure it in a crate, or ask a neighbor or friend to watch it for a few hours. Either way, please let us know if there will be a dog present in the home. Remember, we’ll need access to all areas of the house, inside and out.

3. Replace burned-out light bulbs.

This way, there won’t be any question of whether or not there’s a problem with your wiring. If there are numerous burned-out bulbs, questions might be raised.

4. Clean your home.

This one is kind of a no-brainer, but it’s important to continue to present your home well throughout the buying process. The purchaser will most likely be at the home inspection, so take this opportunity to show off your home once again. Take some time to vacuum, dust, and remove clutter.
