3 Signs of Termites in Your Home

Share:

Termites: they’re something you never want to deal with as a homeowner. If you’re looking to purchase a home, make sure you do your due diligence and ensure there are no pesky termites taking up residence in your home. We’ve listed a few signs you’ll want to watch out for. But to be absolutely sure, call in the experts at TLC Home Inspections. With years of experience, our team will know where and what to look for. Schedule your termite inspection today online or give us a call at (512) 900-2191.

1. Swarming

Mature colonies of these wood-destroying insects produce swarmers (winged adults). If swarmers are found inside the home, that is usually a symptom of a larger problem. Also be on the lookout for piles of old wings. Termites shed their wings, leaving them behind.

2. Mud Tubes

Mud tubes found on walls, floor joists, or floor systems are highways for termites.

3. Soft or Hollow Wood

Wood that is soft and easily disintegrates when poked is a sign of a possible infestation, as is wood that sounds hollow when tapped with a screwdriver or hammer.

Any of These Signs Next Door?

If your next-door neighbor has a problem, there’s a chance that you do too. Or you may be susceptible to infestation. The main takeaway here is don’t wait to call us if you see any signs of termites.

If we find evidence of termite infestation, we’ll advise you on a course of action to treat the problem and protect your home.
